About Closer to You
Here at Closer to You we worked for 11 years to help parents find comfortable ways to carry their babies. Closer to You was a family-run business based in Edinburgh which ran from 2007 to 2018. Sarah is a mum of three, all of whom were carried frequently in a range of carriers when they were babies and toddlers. Sarah built on this practical, hands-on experience, with Baby Carrying Consultant training from Slingababy, and has worked with hundreds of parents over the years to help them find a carrier or sling which is great choice for them and their family.
Here is some more from Sarah about how Closer to You was set up:
"I knew that I would want to carry my baby in a sling right from when I got pregnant with my first baby. I am a non-driver so I knew that a sling would make my life easier in the early months, letting me get on and off buses and trains easily. It was really important to me that the sling was comfortable: I have long-standing back problems, so I needed to avoid making that worse.
"As I looked into the options available, I found that there was a huge range of slings out there which were more comfortable and beautiful than the standard baby carrier you could buy in the high street. So I started trying them out, enjoying having a range of beautiful carriers to help me and my daughter travel around Edinburgh and get on with our days.
"Now, more than ten years after first looking at slings, I have tried out many brands and types of slings, and used them regularly with all three of my children.
"As I tried out more types of slings, I talked to friends and family about how useful they are, how comfortable, and the lovely fabrics they came in. I realised that many of the parents I met had never even seen or heard of any of the slings I was trying out, let alone had a chance to try them out. There were many internet sites selling slings, but hardly any local shops with a range of different types of carrier to see and try on. I set up Closer to You to bring a wider choice of great slings to parents in Edinburgh, so that more people can enjoy carrying their children and gaining all the benefits which I have found."
